Tomco Service Group

Safety-critical product engineering for the autonomous world.

Website

About the firm

Tomco Service Group, founded in 2016, provides functional safety, cybersecurity, systems engineering, software safety, quality management, and AI assurance for safety-critical programs in automotive, aerospace, medical device, robotics, energy, and semiconductor markets. A hybrid bench of Approved Functional Safety Professionals (AFSPs) and AI agents delivers assessor-ready assurance documentation concurrent with engineering - not as a post-handoff audit phase. Coverage spans 46 standards including ISO 26262, DO-178C, IEC 62304, ISO 21434, UL 4600, and SOTIF. An internal autonomy R&D portfolio across ground vehicles, fixed-wing aircraft, surface vessels, drones, humanoids, and heavy off-road platforms stress-tests each assurance documentation pattern on real hardware before it enters client work. Tomco Academy delivers cohort training in functional safety, cybersecurity, AI safety, systems engineering, and quality management, taught by active AFSPs.

Projects

Project Atlas - L4 Driverless Delivery

Automotive

Project details

Tomco led functional safety, SOTIF, and UL 4600 assurance documentation for an L4 autonomous delivery program, covering perception, planning, and a cross-layer safety monitor across a six-subsystem stack. Delivered over three-plus years of continuous safety case ownership with zero recalls across the program lifetime to date.

Project Helix - Humanoid Manipulation

Robotics

Project details

Tomco built the safety case for a humanoid hand and upper-body manipulation platform, applying collaborative robot standards over an ML-policy runtime monitor and SOTIF analysis for unstructured grasping. Covered ISO 13482, ISO 10218-1/2, ANSI/RIA R15.08, and ISO/PAS 8800 in a single signed assurance documentation, from concept to first commercial deployment in 18 months.

Project Aegis - Surgical Robotics

Medical Devices

Project details

Tomco ran IEC 62304 Class C, ISO 14971, and FDA SaMD assurance documentation for a robotic surgery platform, including an AI-assist module under ISO/PAS 8800 and EU AI Act high-risk conformity readiness. The FDA pre-submission review passed in the first cycle with zero findings.

Project Lumen - Tethered Heavy-Lift Cargo Drones

Aerospace

Project details

Tomco authored TSG-PS 001, a public specification for tethered heavy-lift cargo drones that fell between three existing standards, then built the first conforming safety case against it. The specification entered SDO track with ISO TC 20/SC 16, ASTM F38, and RTCA SC-228, going from whitepaper to a signed public release in nine months.
