Projects

USFLOWT - SpiderFLOAT Structural Optimization

Wind · 2022 · Client: NREL / ARPA-E

Project details

Structural optimization and aero-hydro-servo-elastic analysis of the SpiderFLOAT floating substructure under ARPA-E's ATLANTIS program. FWTC collaborated with NREL, Colorado School of Mines, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Virginia, and the American Bureau of Shipping on control-co-design techniques to minimize costs in offshore wind floating substructure design.

3DSA - Concrete Suction Anchor for Floating Wind

Scotland · Wind · 2021 · Client: Carbon Trust / Scottish Government Floating Wind JIP

Project details

Design of a cost-disruptive concrete suction anchor for floating offshore wind turbines, incorporating novel 3D printing fabrication techniques. Selected as a winner of the Scottish Government and Carbon Trust Floating Wind JIP technology acceleration competition. Ramboll and Cathie supported design basis, load assessments, and steel anchor reference designs.

Beridi Archime3

Wind · 2022 · Client: Beridi Maritime

Project details

Engineering support for Beridi Maritime's hybrid floating wind concept, covering control design, fully-coupled loads analyses, ultimate and fatigue limit state design of the tower and tower-floater interface, and structural design of the tower-Archime3 connection and floater.

Modular Concrete Substructure - 15-MW OWT

Wind · Client: RCAM Technologies

Project details

Aero-hydro-servo-elastic modeling and load assessment for an additive-manufactured concrete substructure supporting a 15-MW offshore wind turbine. Computed SLS and ULS loads with detailed load extrapolations at probabilities of 10^-2, 10^-4, and 3.8e-7 per DNVGL-ST-0437 for a fixed-bottom suction-bucket support structure.
