About the firm
Fossil Energy Research Corporation (FERCo) is an engineering services and R&D practice in Laguna Hills, California, specializing in combustion and emissions control. Founded in 1984, FERCo provides research, pilot-scale development, and full-scale evaluation of applied energy and environmental systems for industrial and government clients. It operates its own laboratory for subscale combustion and emissions control research, alongside physical cold flow modeling. It also runs one of the few independent bench-scale and micro-scale selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst activity testing facilities in the United States, and deploys fully instrumented mobile combustion analysis laboratories for full-scale field testing.

Capabilities
Catalyst Activity Testing
Independent bench-scale and micro-scale SCR catalyst activity testing conducted under published VGB and EPRI guidelines. Services evaluate traditional and small-scale samples over temperatures ranging from 320 to 900 degrees Fahrenheit, measuring NOx activity, SO2 to SO3 oxidation, CO oxidation, and various VOCs.
- Bench-Scale Activity Testing
Evaluations of traditional catalyst samples performed per VGB or EPRI guidelines, with capabilities to control flue gas temperature, flow rate, and gas compositions.
- Micro-Scale Activity Testing
Evaluations of small SCR and CO catalyst samples, particularly for tracking gas turbine activity, measuring NOx reduction and establishing light-off curves up to 1000 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In-Situ Catalyst Activity Testing
On-demand measurement of reactor potential using the proprietary CatalysTraK-Activity In Situ Test System, allowing testing without waiting for planned outages.
- NOx Reduction & NH3 Slip
- SO2/SO3 Measurements
- CO & VOC Oxidation
Measurement of carbon monoxide and volatile organic compound oxidation, including toluene, methane, propane, formaldehyde, isopropanol, and hydrogen cyanide.
