Capabilities

Geotechnical Consulting

Service website

Provides site characterization through desktop studies, preliminary and full geotechnical investigations, specialty testing, geophysical surveys, and peer reviews for utility-scale wind and solar projects.

  • Desktop Studies

Pre-investigation assessments of expected geotechnical and geologic conditions using public domain and commercial data.

  • Preliminary Geotechnical Investigations

Limited field exploration to develop preliminary design information for initial pricing and geohazard risk reduction.

  • Design-Level Geotechnical Investigations

WTG-by-WTG exploration and geotechnical reporting to establish the design basis for project infrastructure and access roads.

  • Specialty Testing and Geophysical Surveys

Electrical and thermal resistivity, multi-analysis of surface waves (MASW), ground penetrating radar (GPR), and pile load testing executed by qualified subcontractors.

  • Geotechnical Basis Reviews

Peer reviews of existing geotechnical reports to identify high-risk areas and value-engineering opportunities for stakeholders.

  • Construction QA/QC Support

On-site geotechnical observation and quality assurance for foundation subgrade acceptance during construction.

Foundation Design

Service website

Delivers optimized structural foundations for onshore wind turbines, solar trackers, battery energy storage systems, and power transmission infrastructure.

  • Wind Farm Foundation Design

Structural calculations and issued-for-construction (IFC) documents for gravity-base, rock-anchored, and proprietary turbine support systems.

  • Solar Foundation Testing and Design

Design of driven piles, helical piles, and ballast foundations informed by site-specific pile load testing programs.

  • Storage System Foundation Design

Prototypical and site-specific foundation designs for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

  • Transmission Line and Substation Foundation Design

Foundation engineering for heavy substation elements and transmission line supports including drilled shafts, embedded poles, and spread footings.

Construction Observation

Service website

Ensures compliance with construction documents and engineering specifications through rigorous quality control and field monitoring programs.

  • On-Site Construction Observation

Field visits to monitor work, document construction activities, and record the results of field tests.

  • Foundation Reinforcement Verification

Pre-pour inspections of steel reinforcement to ensure compliance with structural drawings.

  • Shop Drawing and RFI Review

Technical review of submittals, shop drawings, and requests for information to prevent installation errors.

Due Diligence

Service website

Offers independent engineering peer reviews of project geotechnical and structural bases to identify risks and potential cost-saving opportunities.

Forensic Engineering

Service website

Conducts independent, science-based investigations into structural and material anomalies such as concrete cracking, foundation failures, and excessive turbine oscillation.

  • Forensic Investigations

Root-cause assessments of physical anomalies and failures in operating renewable energy assets.

  • Expert Witness Services

Technical testimony and engineering support for disputes involving geotechnical and structural foundation performance.

Repairs and Retrofits

Service website

Diagnoses structural issues and designs engineering solutions to reinforce aging or damaged foundations and infrastructure.

Repowering and Life Extension

Service website

Evaluates existing support structures to support repowering initiatives and extend the operational life of aging wind and solar assets.

Value-Added Engineering Services

Service website

Applies specialized analytical capabilities to enhance the safety, reliability, and cost-efficiency of foundation systems.

  • Advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

Three-dimensional modeling of complex soil-structure interactions using specialized software such as PLAXIS 3D.

  • Reliability-Based Design (RBD)

Probabilistic engineering methods applied to optimize foundation safety factors and reduce material costs.

  • Geohazard Risk Assessments

Identification and mitigation planning for geological hazards that could impact project construction or long-term safety.

  • Codes and Standards Expertise
